Adidas and Nike

Adidas is a very well known shoe brand. Adidas was founded in Germany in the 1920's by two brothers Adi and Rudolf Dassler. The company was first called Dassler, but one of the brothers eventually went his own way so the company became Adidas (from Adi Dassler). In the 1980's, Olympic athletes were seen wearing Adidas shoes and that's when they became very popular.

If you know anything about Adidas you will know that their logo has three stripes in it. The three stripes were actually meant to keep the foot in place, but it soon became the logo that everybody knew. Adidas has very famous followers, and what once started out as an athletic brand has become more popular in urban regions. Hip Hop star Run DMC wore Adidas all the time and eventually hopped on the bandwagon and created his own Adidas shoe. The star still creates his own line from the brand.

Nike is another very well known brand. Nike was founded in 1962 under the name Blue Ribbon Sports. The name didn't change to Nike until 1978. The Nike symbol is the swoosh (or a check mark) which Nike had come out with in 1972.

Nike also has popular people wearing their shoes. Nike really moved forward when they became sponsors of high profile sports personalities like Tiger Woods and Michael Jordan. Jordan quickly came out with his own line, which is still popular to this day. Nike has all sorts of shoes, ranging from athletic to flip flops.

Adidas and Nike have come out with lines of clothing as well as bags and other products. They are the two most popular athletic shoes and have a similar history of picking up endorsements and sponsoring promising athletes. Adidas and Nike are well known and high quality.
