Umbro’s Football Heritage
Inspired by the fast-growing interest in football in 1924, Umbro was born rebranding the Humphreys Brothers Limited clothing brand and specialising in football and rugby sportswear. Their big break exploded them into the footballing world in 1934, debuting their very own kit designs in the FA Cup final worn by Manchester City and Portsmouth. Many successful teams followed suit in the 30’s and 40’s including Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur. 1952 saw Umbro’s partnership begin with the Summer Olympics supplying kits for the next 20 years. If this wasn’t enough to convince you of their dominance in the footballing world, Brazil became the first World Cup champions to showcase their kits in 1958. Manchester United player Denis Law became the first footballer sponsored by Umbro and by the late 60’s, 85% of British football teams wore kits manufactured by Umbro.
